Green fields, digital divides

The latest issue of Green Futures magazine looks at how access to high quality broadband is a postcode lottery where rural areas draw the short straw.

The article draws on our recent report 'Mind the Gap: Digital England - a rural perspective' and highlights the risk of a widening ‘digital divide’ in which city dwellers enjoy fast, affordable and reliable connections, with the promise of super-fast Next Generation Access (NGA) around the corner, while rural communities languish behind.

The article also looks as some of the possible solutions to help ensure NGA for rural areas, such as pooled public sector purchasing power, or community led initiatives, which could complement more direct government action.
