The Prime Minister has taken part in a public phone-in on the national radio station TalkSport, answering callers’ questions on subjects such as employment, policing and national sport.
The PM answered interview questions from presenters Andy Townsend and Mike Parry and also took calls from members of the public on support for small businesses, opportunities for older workers, policing, Royal Mail, the 2012 Olympics and a range of other topics.
Responding to a question on policing, the PM reiterated his committment to cutting down on red tape for serving police offers and increasing the number of officers on the beat.
The Prime Minister also spoke of his excitement for the London 2012 Olympics and the possibility of an “amazing decade of sport” if the UK is successful in its bid for hosting the 2018 World Cup.
The interview took place before the PM’s trip to the US later today. Mr Brown will be the first EU leader to visit the White House since President Obama’s inauguration in January.
During today’s interview, the Prime Minister spoke about “renewing the special relationship” during the current global economic crisis and how government action has “much greater impact when we do things together”.
