Consultation on the Financial Inclusion Strategy for Wales (The Welsh Assembly Government)

This consultation started on 2nd February 2009 and ends on 4th May 2009.

The Strategy identifies the work which needs to be undertaken by the Welsh Assembly Government and all relevant stakeholders working in collaboration, to address the problems associated with financial exclusion. These include local authorities, housing associations, advice providers, post offices, banks, utility companies and credit unions. Each will have an important role to play in the delivery of the Financial Inclusion Strategy and in creating partnerships between the various sectors to link the required strands of activity together.

The Strategy sets out how our financial inclusion work will support those citizens who are the most disadvantaged and marginalised members of our society by addressing the key issues of:

access to mainstream financial servicesaccess to affordable credit and savings optionsaccess to debt and money advicefinancial capability/literacyincome maximisation

Supported by a comprehensive Action Plan, which will identify measurable outcomes, we will be able to monitor and assess our progress in the fight against financial exclusion.

We would like to hear your views on financial inclusion and the Strategy. The closing date for responses is 4 May 2009.
