We recently spoke to HHJ Dafna Spiro, who sits as a circuit judge in Southwark Crown Court. In her interview, she discusses the types of cases she deals with, her motivations for pursuing a legal career, and various obstacles she has faced. HHJ Spiro talks about the importance of diversity and inclusion in encouraging a fair and open society. She explains that she is particularly proud of her engagement with young members of the Traveller community, alongside barrister June Warwick. The judge urges those interested in a career in the judiciary to sit with judges and observe proceedings, saying “if you want to do it… it’s within your grasp!”
