Guidance: Counting rules for recorded crime

Updated: Updated 'Offence classification index' and 'Counting rules for violence against the person'.

The Home Office Counting Rules provide a national standard for the recording and counting of ‘notifiable’ offences recorded by police forces in England and Wales (known as ‘recorded crime’).

The individual documents give a breakdown of offences contained in each category and an explanation of how they are classified.
