Official Statistics: Breastfeeding at 6 to 8 weeks after birth: 2016 to 2017 quarterly data

Updated: Added Quarter 4 of 2016 to 2017 (April 2017 release, with data from January to March 2017).

Quarterly experimental statistics on breastfeeding prevalence at 6 to 8 weeks after birth for 2016 to 2017. Information is presented at local authority of residence, PHE Centre and England level.

The latest publication relates to quarter 4 of 2016 to 2017 (July 2017 release). This release also includes a refresh of data for previous quarter(s).

Public Health England collected the data through an interim reporting system set up to collect health visiting activity data at a local authority resident level. Data was submitted by local authorities on a voluntary basis.

These interim reporting arrangements have now ended and this is the final quarterly data update to be published by PHE from this source. Annual experimental statistics for 2016 to 2017 will be published in October 2017.

The Children and Young People’s Health Services Data Set now collects and reports data from providers about breastfeeding at 6 to 8 weeks.
