Policy paper: Local government transparency code 2015

The local government transparency code is issued to meet the government’s desire to place more power into citizens’ hands to increase democratic accountability. It will make it easier for local people to contribute to the local decision making process and help shape public services.

The Local government transparency code 2014 currently remains legally in force.

This 2015 code is currently recommended practice. However, when regulations come into force making it a legal requirement for local authorities to publish the information specified in part 2 of the code 2015, the 2014 code will be revoked.

The frequently asked questions document addresses technical questions which are related to the publication of specific data sets.
