Notes to editors:

The Adaptation Sub-Committee of the Committee on Climate Change (CCC) was established under the Climate Change Act 2008 to provide independent, expert advice to the Government and devolved administrations on preparing for climate change. The ASC has two main roles, to assess the climate threats and opportunities for the UK, and to evaluate the progress being made by the Government’s National Adaptation Programme. The ASC is also preparing an interim assessment of the Scottish Climate Change Adaptation Programme. The appointments process will be managed by Defra (who have policy and sponsorship responsibility for the ASC) in concert with DECC (who have policy and sponsorship for the CCC). The appointments will be approved by Ministers including in the devolved administrations. The remaining members of the ASC, including the chair, have been reappointed for further terms of between eighteen months and three years. More information on the ASC’s work can be found here
