Well over 200 people joined the latest UK National Screening Committee (UK NSC) online seminar.
The event on 30 September focused on high-risk human papillomavirus (hrHPV) vaccination and its potential impact on the future of cervical screening. Attendees joined from a wide array of backgrounds, including screening specialists, clinicians, academics, commercial organisations and charities.
The 4 excellent presentations addressed many questions that had been submitted to the UK NSC inbox ahead of the seminar and they were followed by a busy question and answer session.
As always, there were more questions than time available to answer them in – but anyone with an unanswered query is welcome to send it to us at UKNSC@dhsc.gov.uk.

Sharif Ismail, from the UK Health Security Agency, spoke about HPV vaccination in England, the importance of early vaccination, variations in vaccination coverage and how vaccination awareness remains a challenge.

Professor Peter Sasieni, from Queen Mary University London, presented his research on the impact of HPV vaccination. He spoke about how cervical cancer mortality has declined in relation to increased vaccine uptake, and looked at progress towards the elimination of cervical cancer in vaccinated people.
