Recorder vacancies: pre-application seminar

The Judicial Appointments Commission (JAC) (external link) will be launching a selection exercise in April to recruit 128 Recorders. Recorders deal with cases within a mid-range of complexity and legal difficulty across the criminal, family, and civil jurisdictions.

The seminar

The Judicial Office is organising a pre-application seminar that will take place online via Microsoft Teams on Wednesday 15 April 2026 from 5pm to 6.15pm.

The seminar aims to help applicants be better prepared to make an application and to receive up-to-date guidance and advice on the JAC’s selection process. As well as the JAC, you will also hear fromcurrent Circuit Judges and Recorders.

Who should attend?

Applications are invited from solicitors, barristers, and Fellows of CILEX in England and Wales with at least seven years post qualification legal experience. In addition, candidates should be able to offer a reasonable length of service, usually of four years, before the statutory retirement age of 75.

Applications are particularly welcome from under-represented groups (women, ethnic minority candidates, disabled candidates).

See the website for more information on the work of Recorders.
