Professor Forster reappointed to Committee and Professor Le Quéré’s contract extended

Two of the UK’s leading climate scientists will serve as Committee members for a longer period.

The Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero and the relevant Ministers in the Scottish Government, Welsh Government and Northern Ireland Executive have reappointed Professor Piers Forster to the Climate Change Committee. This reappointment takes effect from 8 January 2026 and will last for five years.  

Professor Forster is Director of the Priestley Centre for Climate Futures and Professor of Physical Climate Change at the University of Leeds. He has been on the Committee since 2018, serving as interim Chair for two of those years.

Professor Corinne Le Quéré’s term as a member of the Committee has also been extended by up to six months. Professor Le Quéré’s term will now end no later than 30 June 2026. 

She joined the Committee in 2016 and is Professor of Climate Change Science at the University of East Anglia. She was formally Director of the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research.
