The Prime Minister has appointed Professor Hew Francis Anthony Strachan to the Board of the Imperial War Museum for a period of four years from 1 March 2010.
Biographical DetailsProfessor Strachan is Chichele Professor of the History of War, Oxford University, and Fellow of All Souls. He was previously Research Fellow, Corpus Christi College, Cambridge 1975-8; Senior Lecturer in War Studies, RMA Sandhurst 1978-79; Fellow, Corpus Christi College, Cambridge 1979-1992 (Life Fellow 1992-date); Professor of Modern History, University of Glasgow 1992-2001.
Notes to EditorsThe Museum was looking for a person with academic expertise in a field of twentieth century and/or contemporary conflict The Imperial War Museum illustrates and records all aspects of the two World Wars and other military operations involving Britain or the Commonwealth since 1914.
The posts are not remunerated. Reasonable expenses can be claimed.
The appointment has been made in accordance with the OCPA Code of Practice. Appoints are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. Professor Strachan has not undertaken any significant political activity in the UK during the past five years.
