Our State of the Countryside Updates allow us to monitor key national rural indicators and to track change over time. The updates are also one way in which we fulfil our role as an independent watchdog.

This update looks at how the Index of Multiple Deprivation and its component domains are distributed across rural England, and discusses the extent to which these patterns reflect rural disadvantage and deprivation.
