The Committee on Standards in Public Life welcomed today the publication of new research, produced by MORI for the Public Appointments Commissioner. This shows that in addition to a low level of public awareness about how the public appointments system operates, only one fifth of respondents had confidence in the system and that a "major downfall of the process, in the eyes of the public, is the final selection by the Minister who may not have been involved throughout the process".
