The Committee on Standards in Public Life regrets the failure of Government to accept its recommendations on clarifying, simplifying, and making more transparent the rules on Ministerial involvement in senior public appointments, which it believes leaves the system open to mistrust. The Government has also failed to strengthen the powers of the Commissioner for Public Appointments in dealing with breaches of the Commissioner's code of conduct.
