Guidance: Notification of tobacco or herbal products for smoking

Updated: Updated information and instructions.

The Tobacco and Related Products Regulations (2016), requires all producers of tobacco products and herbal products for smoking to provide the government with certain information, including product information, ingredients and emissions, before making them available for sale.

This guidance provides information on making notifications, which must be done by using the European Common Entry Gate (EU-CEG) notification portal.

Public Health England (PHE) has been designated as the UK Competent Authority for the management and publication of notifications for tobacco and herbal products for smoking. The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) performs the same function for electronic cigarettes.

This guidance is for:

businesses who manufacture tobacco or herbal products intended for smoking businesses who put their name, trademark or similar on a product indicating they are the manufacturer or originator anyone importing these products into the UK

This guidance includes a list of all correctly notified tobacco and herbal products for smoking, identifying the manufacture or importer, product type, brand and, where provided, brand sub-type (brand name).

This list may still contain information about products that do not comply with the Tobacco and Related Products Regulations (2016) and the Standardised Packaging of Tobacco Products Regulations (2015).

Products that appear on this list which do not comply with the appropriate legislation are not permitted to be sold in the UK. This list should not be taken as evidence to trade in any non-compliant products.
