Form: National Insurance: credits for parents and carers (CF411A)

Updated: The Welsh version of the CF411A notes have been updated with information on the Data Protection Act and time limits for applications.

If you’re a foster or kinship carer you’ll need to use the postal form to apply.

You must include a copy of a letter from your local authority or fostering agency confirming your status as a carer.

Send the form and supporting letter to:

If you’re a parent or carer of a child under 12, you’ll automatically get Class 3 National Insurance credits if you claim Child Benefit.

Use the online service or postal form if you need to:

apply for credits as a foster carer, or kinship carer in Scotland transfer credits from a spouse or partner who claimed the Child Benefit apply for credits missing from your National Insurance account - if you didn’t automatically get them when you claimed Child Benefit

If you use the online form, you’ll get a reference number that you can use to track the progress of your form.

You must include a copy of a letter from your local authority or fostering agency confirming your status as a carer if you’re a foster or kinship carer.

If you’re using the online service

You can submit the letter of confirmation or supporting evidence you need to provide by attaching it to the online form. If you submit it using the online form, the plan should be no more than 5MB in Portable Document Format (PDF) or Joint Photographic Experts Group (JPEG) format.

If you’re using the postal form

If you want to submit your letter of confirmation or supporting evidence by post, send it together with postal Application form, to the address shown below.
