Guidance: Grenfell Tower fire: handling immigration cases

Updated: Updated guidance document.

This guidance tells Home Office staff how to consider the immigration status of those affected by the Grenfell Tower fire.

It allows eligible individuals to be granted a period of lawful residence in the UK with full access to relevant support and assistance.

This policy is intended to assist those directly affected by the fire. It does not cover:

anyone outside the UK relatives of those affected by the fire individuals in the UK who do not fall within one of the categories set out in the ‘who will be considered under this policy’ section

Foreign nationals affected by the fire have until 30 November 2017 to come forward under the Grenfell immigration policy.

On 11 October the government announced further changes to enable those qualifying under this policy to extend their limited leave beyond the initial 12 month period granted under the policy and to qualify for permanent residence after five years’ lawful residence under this policy, subject to meeting security, criminality and fraud checks. Updated guidance to cover this change has now been published.
