Guidance: List of motorcycles that can be used for riding tests

Updated: Updated the list of motorcycles that can be used for riding tests.

Your motorcycle must meet certain rules to be used for your motorcycle test.

These subcategory A2 and category A motorcycles are listed because the manufacturer or an official importer has given the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency proof that they meet the rules.

You can use other motorcycles that aren’t on this list, but you must take proof to your test that it meets the rules.

AM mopeds and A1 motorcycles

Subcategory AM mopeds and A1 motorcycles aren’t listed. You can use any AM or A1 ‘learner legal’ mopeds or motorcycles unless there’s clear evidence they don’t meet the rules.

Changes to category A from 2018

From the end of 2018:

the power output will change to at least 50 kW a minimum kerb weight of 180 kg will apply

Motorcycles affected by this change are shown on the list as A*. They won’t be able to be used for test from the end of 2018. This change is still subject to EU approval.
