In 2006 the European Commission conducted a review into the functioning of the internal market for goods. It concluded that the EU harmonised legislation was not as effective as it should be. It highlighted 3 things:
the high number of products that were on the EU market that did not comply with product safety legislation the unsatisfactory performance of some conformity assessment bodies the difficulties that many stakeholders faced in understanding and using the EU legislationThe European Commission created a new legislative framework to respond to this review. The new framework will align 9 European Union product safety directives. We’re seeking your views on how we will implement this alignment.
