Consultation outcome: M6 Junctions 10a to 13 statutory instrument

Updated: This document provides a summary of the responses received during the M6 Smart Motorway Statutory Instrument legislation consultation and addresses all the issues raised. The eight week consultation took place between 5 July 2013 and 30 August 2013, providing an opportunity for stakeholders, such as road user groups, local government organisations and other interested parties to comment on the proposed draft regulations to allow the implementation of VMSL on the M6 between Junctions 10a to 13

The Highways Agency proposes to improve the M6 by making it a ‘managed motorway’ between Junctions 10a and 13.

Managed motorways help relieve congestion by using the hard shoulder as a running lane and using technology to vary the mandatory speed limit.

We have drafted regulations regarding implementation of these variable speed limits and are keen for any organisations, businesses or individuals affected by these proposals to provide their views. We are interested specifically in how the draft regulations could affect you, your organisation or those you represent.
