Statistics: Export of Objects of Cultural Interest 2013/2014

The 60th annual report on the Export of Objects of Cultural Interest by the Reviewing Committee on the Export of Works of Art and Objects of Cultural Interest. Between 1 May 2013 and 30 April 2014, 29 cases were considered by the Reviewing Committee. 22 cases, were deferred by the Secretary of State following the recommendation of the Committee.

The export deferred items cover a diverse range of fields and objects from a classic racing car, the fine and decorative arts, to a gold and gem-set ring owned by Jane Austen. Eight items were bought by public institutions. Matching funds could not be raised for 14 items which included a painting by Nicolas Poussin, a pair of bronze sculptures by Massimiliano Soldani-Benzi, the letters and related documents of James Wolfe and a self-portrait by Rembrandt van Rijn.
