Correspondence: Special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) reform: letters

Updated: Added letter for parents to be circulated from late August 2014.

These letters describe the changes we’re introducing in September 2014 to improve support for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

The first letter is an open letter to parents that explains the main changes to the support system. It also offers reassurance that no child or young person currently receiving support will lose out as a result of the changes.

The next 3 letters ask local authorities, colleges and teachers working with children with SEND to implement the reforms correctly.

The fifth letter was sent to parents of children with SEND in April 2014 and explains what the move to the new system will mean for them and their family.

Advice on implementing the 0 to 25 special needs system for local authorities and advice for colleges is available.
