The latest National Statistics on Motoring Offences produced by the Welsh Assembly Government were released on 11 September 2012 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

UK Statistics Authority website The key points from the latest bulletin are:

  • The number of Fixed Penalty Notices for motoring offences issued by the police (including traffic wardens) in Wales in 2010 was 151 thousand, a 27 per cent decrease on 2009 and a 42 per cent decrease from 2007.
  • In 2010, speed limit offences comprised 68 thousand of these Fixed Penalty Notices, or 45 per cent of all Fixed Penalty Notices issued in 2010.
  • Cameras provided evidence for 87 per cent of 68 thousand Fixed Penalty Notices issued for speeding offences in 2010.
  • In 2011, the Magistrates’ Courts proceeded against a total of 63 thousand motoring offences, down about 9 per cent on the figure of 69 thousand for 2010.
  • In 2011, men accounted for 75 per cent of motoring offence proceedings at magistrates’ courts.
