- The provisional number of deaths registered in England and Wales in the week ending 22/06/2012 (week 25) was 9,054. This represents a decrease of 1,116 deaths registered in comparison with the previous week (week 24).
- The average number of deaths for the corresponding week over the previous five years was 8,750.
- Moveable public holidays, when register offices are closed, affect the number of registrations made in the published weeks and in the corresponding weeks in previous years.
- The trend in recent weeks, where a lower than usual number of deaths was registered in week 23 and a higher than usual number in week 24 followed by deaths in week 25 returning to a more usual level for the time of year, is likely to be due to the closure of register offices over the Jubilee bank holiday.
